What is STRAFTAT?

STRAFTAT is a 1v1 / 2v2 / FFA online first-person shooter with a wide variety of maps and large choice of weapons. It was developed by French duo Sirius Lemaitre and Leonard Lemaitre under the entity Lemaitre Bros.

Gameplay Overview

STRAFTAT is an arena shooter for 2-4 players built around fast, fluid movement and disposable weapon pickups which are scattered across the map at various spawners. Takes are fast and often chaotic, usually ending within 30 seconds. The game rewards mechanical skill and offers various movement options to the player such as sprinting, sliding and wall running. Leaning around corners is also an option, adding a more tactical and slower pace of gameplay. STRAFTAT is easy to pick up and works great as a casual game to play with friends, but also rewards players looking for something more. Movement tech, weapon mastery and map knowledge give the game a competitive depth that isn't immediately obvious from the surface.

Hosting & Joining Lobbies

Main menu buttons

There are two main ways to play STRAFTAT, hosting or joining.

Hosting a lobby gives you full control and allows you to modify the lobby settings, set a custom lobby name, and configure the privacy level. Lobbies can be set to public, private or friends only. Every lobby generates its own unique ID which can be shared with others, allowing them to join directly.

To join a lobby you can click the "JOIN" button on the main menu to open a lobby browser, from there you can filter by game mode - 1v1, Teams or FFA. Lobbies with a border and star around them indicate the host owns the DLC. There is also a section to paste a lobby ID if you want to join a lobby directly, this is also the only way to join a private lobby. Alternatively, the "QUICK MATCH" button will drop you into a random lobby with the option to filter for a specific game mode.

Lobby Settings

When hosting a lobby, you have access to the following settings:

Takes and Rounds

Games of STRAFTAT are divided into takes and rounds. A take is won by being the last player standing, so eliminate your opponent(s) by any means necessary. The first player or team to win two takes wins the round. Takes don't always end in a decisive win or loss, they can end in a draw if all remaining players die within one second of each other, in which case every player involved receives a take win. The number of rounds needed to win the game can be configured in the lobby settings, its default value is four.

Free For All

In Free For All, all players compete independently with no teammates. All standard takes and rounds rules apply. The first player to reach the required rounds amount wins the game.

Teams

The Teams game mode allows you to assign each player to a team from within the lobby. All standard takes and rounds apply. Teams will work together to eliminate players on opposing teams to be the last side standing. Team composition is completely flexible, uneven matchups like 2v1 or 3v1 are possible if desired.

Teammates will be outlined in a glow, the colour of which is configurable in your graphics settings. Enemy outlines are enabled or disabled from within the lobby settings by the host. Friendly fire between teammates can also be toggled from within the lobby settings.

At the end of a match, players are taken to the "endgame" level where the option to mix the teams is available before starting a new game.

Weapon Randomiser

The 'Randomise Weapons' screen allows you to fully customise which weapons can spawn across all maps, overriding each map's default weapon loadout.

Each weapon in the game is listed with two options: a toggle to include or exclude it from the spawn pool entirely, and a spawn chance slider which controls its relative spawn weight. The percentage shown next to each weapon reflects its likelihood of spawning relative to all other enabled weapons, so increasing a weapon's value makes it more likely to appear while decreasing it makes it rarer. A filter bar at the top lets you search for specific weapons quickly.

The 'Randomize' button will randomly enable and disable weapons as well as redistribute the spawn chance values across all enabled weapons if you want a quick randomised configuration.

Configurations can be saved as named presets using the 'Presets' panel on the right, making it easy to switch between different setups without having to reconfigure manually each time.

Weapon Swapper

The 'Swapper Settings' screen allows you to define per-map weapon overrides, replacing specific weapons with others on a map by map basis. This is separate from the Randomise Weapons setting and operates independently.

The screen is split into three columns. The centre column allows you to add maps to the swapper by entering its name. If a swapper is loaded, it displays a list of all maps that it configures. Clicking a map selects it, shown at the top of the screen as the 'Selected Map'. The left column then shows the overrides configured for that map, each override being a pair of weapons where the left weapon is replaced by the right on that map. Clicking 'Add Override' adds a new pair which can be set using the dropdowns. The red button next to each entry deletes it.

The right column handles presets. Configurations can be saved as named presets and switched between freely. Presets can also be exported and shared. Clicking Export copies the preset as a base64 code to your clipboard which can be sent to others. Clicking Import pastes a base64 code from your clipboard and loads it as a preset, making it easy to share and use community configurations.

A community preset created by CrimsonRaven is available below, which includes every map with each weapon set to itself. This provides a clean base to start configuring from without having to add maps and overrides manually.

Map Playlists

Map playlist UI, accessed from the maps page in the main menu

Collections of maps can be stored in playlists. These can then be loaded while in the lobby menu or set as active from the maps page. Once loaded, only maps from the selected playlist will be in rotation when playing. The game comes with 8 playlists by default (3 DLC exclusive), these are:

• Standard Maps
• All Maps
• Great 2v2 Maps
• Long Range Maps
• Silly Maps
• DLC Maps (DLC)
• Alt Maps (DLC)
• Melee Maps (DLC)

Creating a map playlist is easy. Click the plus icon on the maps page, then use the 'AVAILABLE MAPS' section to search for and select the maps you want to add. Once added they will appear on the right in the 'PLAYLIST CONTENT' section. Any of your playlists can now be renamed, duplicated, set as active or exported. Exporting and importing map playlists functions the same as weapon swapper presets. Setting a playlist as active will use that playlist in all future lobbies you create until it is reset or changed to another playlist.
